When and for what reason did you first come into contact with text2net?
In spring 2013. The reason was the website relaunch project our division was undertaking. To begin with, text2net was ‘only’ supposed to be supporting us with the creation of web content. Over the course of the next few months, however, the company became more and more involved.

The contact we have with text2net staff is always relaxed and friendly. I wish I had more service providers like you!

  • Markus Breuer, "founding father" of text2net: "Free up the customer by relieving him of unnecessary burdens!"

Markus Breuer, CEO, The Otherland Group GmbH

What was your motivation for founding text2net in 2004?
text2net was founded based on the principle of “The whole is more than the sum of its parts”. Following our positive experience on a large shared project, we met with a couple of people from Elephant Seven West (formerly fractales GmbH) and Charax to discuss how we could continue working together on a more permanent basis. In quite an unconventional workshop it became clear that in this project as well as in other projects, the question always remained, “What do we do after the launch?” Neither partner had a proper answer to this question or a suitable range of products and services in their portfolio. And so it came that text2net was formed.

    Why a joint venture?
    See above.

    What was the greatest challenge?
Probably the greatest challenge in the first few years was extending our client base. The primary service offered by text2net was without doubt one that addressed a real issue for many companies. However, potential customers weren’t even necessarily aware that it was an issue, or at least they believed it would be cheaper to resolve these issues in-house – a clear mistake, as has been proven time and again. It took a long time for people to understand that outsourcing content management not only increased the quality of the end result, but actually reduced costs and saved time.

    What’s your favourite anecdote?
I’m not very good with anecdotes. Unlike my colleague, Dirk Radtke, I was not very involved in the day-to-day business …

What advice would you give text2net for the next 10 years?
Do what you’ve been doing for the past 10 years: Relieve the customers of unnecessary burdens, take care of the tedious work and do it with a maximum of commitment, quality and reliability. Keep a watchful eye on the market. I think there are still areas in which you can successfully apply your virtues and core competencies. Product data management is one. Perhaps community management as well? There will be more work to do, not less.

  • Dr. Dirk Radtke, "founding father" of text2net: "...Unbelievable service."

Dr. Dirk Radtke, Head of Project Management, OTTO Group

What was your motivation for founding text2net in 2004?
2004 was a year of opportunities. The founding of text2net was an opportunity to answer the question “So who takes care of the day-to-day business of content management now that the project is complete?” by giving this task to someone who wanted to do it but was unable to because of bureaucratic restrictions in his current place of work. So text2net was simply the framework for bringing the two together.

    Why a joint venture?
We saw working together with a large, successful German agency as a great opportunity to help companies faced with the question, “Who takes care of the day-to-day business of content management?”. We sought and formed a team to take care of day-to-day business once a website was set up, enabling the customer to maintain the same level of quality after a relaunch in the long term. This usually involves transforming information=text to=2 net=the company’s website.

    What was the greatest challenge?
Controlling growth is a considerable task for every company. Deciding who to call in to process an unexpected order every now and then to ensure staff retention in the medium term is not easy. I’m especially proud that we were able to put together a team who were committed and provided excellent service while maintaining a thriving business culture. A company is a place where people spend a lot of time, and it influences the employees in important ways. Companies need to take responsibility for this.

    What’s your favourite anecdote?
That’s a tough question. I’ve always been astonished by the amount of Haribo that gets eaten during content management.

What advice would you give text2net for the next 10 years?
Keep an eye on all things of importance – all of them and always. Keep providing your unbelievably high level of service, flexibility and, above all, dependability. Then you’ll have what you need to survive in the market. Keep up your company culture and continue to respect each other. Avoid unnecessary hierarchies – allow the organisation to keep itself in check. (And clean up the balcony). And if you continue to professionalize your services for product data management, there’s no reason you can’t expand into e-commerce.
